Salt Lake Tribune Review
Amy Adams follows
Hilary Swank ("P.S. I Love You") and
Janeane Garofalo ("The Matchmaker") in the overworked premise where an uptight American woman goes to Ireland and finds true love. Adams plays Anna, a Boston real-estate stager who is disappointed when her equally type-A boyfriend Jeremy (
Adam Scott) doesn't propose, so she follows him to Dublin to pop the question on Feb. 29 -- when women, by tradition, can ask the men. The journey becomes a shambles, and Anna must rely on a craggy Irishman, Declan (
Matthew Goode, from "Brideshead Revisited"), to get her to Dublin. As director
Anand Tucker ("Shopgirl") grinds through the cliché-encrusted script by
Deborah Kaplan and
Harry Elfont ("Made of Honor"), Anna and Declan start fighting and end up ... well, you can guess. Adams is cute as a button, as always, but even she can't energize this tired excuse for a comedy.
I liked it!

I don't see many "chick flicks" but I went to this one with my daughter and was so pleased. I really thought it would be one of those where all the funny parts were in the previews and it would be so boring. I was wrong, this movie stays clean and is really funny. I was very impressed with the caliber of acting and story writing. This is one that you should see no matter what the critics say.
The rundown: Amy Adams flounders in this cliched romance, as an American in Ireland to propose — but meets a charming bartender (
Matthew Goode). 98 minutes. (SPM)
